Titleist Pro V1 - Golf's Premium Ball

The new design for 2009 Titleist Pro V1 claims to be a huge improvement on the last incarnation back in 2007. Titleist have been innovators in golf ball design for over seventy years and the R&D department at Acushnet have encompassed a whole raft of new technology to produce a ball of superior dimensions.

These balls started shipping in February 2009. After extensive research by Acushnet into the science of golf ball flight they believe they have produced their best performing ball in the Pro V1.

The major differences in the 2009 model over the 2007 ball are twofold:

•Re-formulated the outer core with an increased resistance to abrasion thus making a tougher ball that would survive miss hits without a loss in overall ball performance.

•Increased the core diameter from 1.53 inches to 1.55 inches on the latest model. This increase in core diameter upped the ball compression a few percent, resulting in a faster ball off the club face at impact without a significant increase in the ball spin rate.

Overview

Multi Layer Construction for max performance

The new pro v1 is constructed using a 3 piece multilayer design that will give an explosive performance off the tee. Driver performance is improved over the 2007 Titleist pro v1 as is is the balls overall durability.

Improved Case and Core

The cover is made from urethane elastomer that is 0.03 of an inch thick that produces high spin rates whilst keeping its shape and being cut free. The core on the new golf ball has been revised for 2009 and is larger than the 2007 ball. This produces a golf ball that has an exceptional soft feel whilst being longer than its predecessor.

Titleist keep the same dimple rate on the 2009 Ball

The dimple rate on the 2009 Titleist pro V1 has remained at 392 and the multi dimple designed still has the same staggered wave parting line that produces a more consistent ball flight. Also kept is the alignment marking on the side of the Pro V1. This was a feature that was added to the previous model and helps lining the ball up on a putting line. In other words for the golfer who likes to mark a line on their balls to aid putting there is now need to reach for a sharpie.

Reviews - Titleist Pro V1 golf balls

With out a doubt the best ball on the market. Been playing Titleist balls for years but the new pro v1 is the absolute nuts. Ten years ago I could drive a Titleist Pro Balata about 230 yards. I then played of 7 but was very good around the greens. Since converting to pro v1 in 2001 I have been consistently driving 250 yards with ease. I changed venues 5 years ago to a course with slicker greens and these balls still haven't let me down.

Played most premium balls in the last 5 or 6 years but I always come back to titleist pro v1 golf balls. They are a bit on the pricey side but the trade off in performance and durability is well worth the extra expense. Paired up with a set of Mizuno MP60's my shot making is nothing less than sublime. I just love the way they zip off the clubface with the knowledge that even on the trickiest of greens they will stick like mud. I have been recently demoing some new drivers but will wait for the new Taylormade R9 to hit the shops. I am pretty sure that the results will be astounding. I had a Burner Driver in the bag for 3 years and have been regularly punching 260 yarders.
If you are like me and can warrant the price then I totally recommend Titleist Pro V1 golf balls.

Shoot in the mid 80's but have not been put off that I should probably be playing a more user friendly ball. I have tried the NXT, NXT Tour and the AD333 but they can't touch the Pro V1 for reaction on the greens. Probably hit the 2 piece balls longer but it's worth the sacrifice when I get within a 100 yards of the pin. Titleist Pro V1 golf balls do exactly what they say in the adverts when it comes to dropping and stopping. Great feel of the putter as well. Lets face it, confidence around and on the greens is where you are going to lower your scores.
