Titleist Pro V1x - Golf's Premium Ball

Introduced in the first quarter of 2009, the new Titleist Pro V1x is the fourth generation of this highly popular alternative to the Pro V1 ball. The Pro V1x differs mainly from the V1 in the spin department. It's lower spin rate allows for a more consistent distance off the driver face.

Pro V1x Firm Feel

The new 2009 model X ball has the same performance cover employed in its sibling V1 but will feel a bit firmer due its higher compression. This is noticeable on all shots from driver down to putter.

If you are golfer with a high swing speed then the V1x will probably be the right golf ball for your type of game. It offers superior stop and drop performance around the greens whilst being super long off the tee.

The higher swing speeds required to get the maximum performance off the tee should not distract from the fact the V1x ball is also probably the better ball for the average golfer.

Overview

Four Piece Dual Core Construction

The 2009 Titleist Pro V1x is made up of a solid 1 inch polybutadiene core covered with another layer of the same material to give a dual core of 1.55 inches. This produces a ball with an exceptional low spin rate whilst increasing the velocity of ball off the club face.
Next comes a thin Ionomer casing that helps to control the spin when the ball is hit with a driver, resulting in improved distances. Finally the Titleist is covered with a thin urethane elastomer cover which greatly improves the overall durability of the Titliest Pro V1x golf ball.

332 Dimples on the Pro V1x ball

No radical changes here for the V1x golf ball dimple design. The ball retains its 322 dimples that a make up the staggered wave parting line to create a golf ball with phenomenal distance and low spin rates from both the driver and long irons, whilst keeping the ability to produce drop and stop shot making when playing the shorter irons into the greens.

AIM Putting Alignment

As with the Pro V1 the V1x also employs the updated side stamp to assist in lining up the ball whilst putting. This can also help when teeing up the ball, as it helps with getting the golf stance aligned properly with the target line.

Pro V1x Review

Having been playing the original Titleist Professional since there conception back in the 90's I was quickly to become an exponent of the Pro V1 ball when it arrived in 2002. I play off a handicap of 7 at the moment but have been down to 5, so playing a premium ball is important to me.

I was always under the impression that the V1x ball was not suitable to me as I have recorded swing speed of 98 mph. Well last year my club was fortunate to arrange a Titleist Demo Day.
I haven't played with clubs for years since I changed to the more affordable Mizuno range, but I thought I would turn up and have nose.
I managed to have a long chat with one of the Pros and got into a discussion about ball fitting. After 5 minutes it became apparent that I had discounted the V1x for all the wrong reasons.

The reason why my handicap had gone backwards over the last 3 years was due to an increase in spin when executing my short range shots. Not a bad thing you may ask, but I was having trouble controlling the amount of spin I was generating on our very receptive greens.
I have changed to the lower spinning Pro V1x and have seen a remarkable transformation in my short game. On tight pin positions I can be more aggressive with my choice of shot knowing that the ball will not spin too much, even from the tightest of lies.
Distance off the tee is about the same as the Pro V1, so the change in ball is definitely a move in the right direction.
Lets hope that my handicap starts moving in the down as well.
